TOP 10 TIPS FOR JOY

on Wednesday, August 4, 2010

It is easy to get caught up in our materialistic society that equates feeling joyful and happy in life with acquiring material possessions. If we just have that new home, new car, new dress, etc, then we will be filled with joy...... or will we? When we do manage to purchase any of these material things, why is the associated joy and happiness usually so short-lived?

The answer is simple - the Heart and Soul are still lacking in Joy, only the mind or ego has temporary satisfaction until it needs the next 'fix' of obtaining more material possessions.

My work and passion is to help you awaken to more Heart and Soul Joy in your life, in simple, free or low-cost ways to make your Heart and Soul sing and feel truly alive.

My favourite Top 10 Tips to make your Heart and Soul sing with Joy:
1. An Attitude of Gratitude and Appreciation - Start and end every day by making a list in your mind or on in a journal of at least 5 things you are grateful for, no matter how small. It may be something as simple as your soft, warm bed or the sounds of birds outside. As you regularly focus more on all the good things you already have in your life your vibration will raise, allowing you to feel more joy in your daily life.

2. Spend Time in Nature - Go to a beautiful place in nature, such as a local park, garden, natural bushland, mountains, lake or seaside. Tune in to the energies of the trees, birds, native animals and water. Enjoy watching a sunrise or sunset in quiet contemplation or with friends. Standing in sunshine, feel energetic dross being transmuted from your energy field. Allow the energy of tall trees to drain any negativity from you.

3. Watch Children or Animals at Play - Find yourself totally involved in the moment as you watch the spontaneity and free flowing of emotions of children or animals at play. To distance yourself from any worrying thoughts, cuddle, play with or watch a happy animal. Their curiosity and delight engross you instantly.

4. Daily Laughter - Laughing exercises more muscles in the face than anything else and feels so good you just want to do more. Watch or read something funny on a regular basis to uplift your mood. A good belly laugh is a great way of relieving pent-up stress. Practise laughing for 10 minutes a day. Even if you don't think you have anything funny in your life, just watch yourself trying to laugh and you will find the ridiculousness of your attempt will trigger you into genuine laughter. Consider joining a local laughter group.

5. Fun Times with Friends - Schedule in regular time to reconnect with your social network, whether it be by phone, email, or going out together. Good friends can be our free therapist, our laughter buddy and a chance to just relax and switch off from daily challenges.

6. Reward Yourself for Achieving Goals - Each time you reach a pre-determined goal, no matter how small, reward yourself with a special treat that nourishes mind and body - perhaps a movie, going out to dinner, catching up with a friend, gulit-free downtime or visiting a special place. For the effort you have given out you are now allowing yourself to receive back, which is a powerful act of self-love.

7. Let Your Inner Child Play - It is too easy to believe that as an adult you must always be serious, disciplined and responsible. How boring! What does your inner child, that playful part inside you, want to do to have some harmless fun? Is it swinging in the park, dancing, watching cartoons, playing a game, eating a favourite food from childhood? Relax, let you inner child out to play on a regular basis and feel the joy in your life.

8. Forgive Yourself and Others - The longer you hold onto unforgiveness of those you perceive have wronged you, the more the corrosive effect it has on your mind and physical body. You have already been hurt by someone else, do you now want to compound that hurt by damaging yourself emotionally or physically? Chances are the person who has wronged you has forgotten all about it, so the only person you are hurting by holding onto unforgiveness is yourself. Practise forgiveness on a regular basis, knowing that the gift of forgiveness is for yourself. Forgive yourself for all the hurt and other emotions you have been holding onto that have been damaging you and then visualise bundling it all up and letting it go.

9. Eat Nourishing Food as close to its natural state as possible - What we eat influences our moods and behaviours far more than most of us realise. For instance, many people feel heavy, lethargic and energetically-flat after eating wheat-based foods. Eating chocolate can give you a quick high, which is quickly replaced by mild depression, causing you to seek another chocolate 'fix'. The conglomeration of additives, artificial colours, flavourings and preservatives found in the majority of packaged foods challenge our good mood and our immune system. Endeavour to eat fresh food and prepare meals yourself with basic, recognizable ingredients, organic if possible.

10. Try Something New - What have you had in the back of your mind that you would like to try - maybe painting, salsa dancing, enrolling in a personal development course or anything else that catches your interest? Just do it, let your creative juices flow and feel your spirits soar!

Resilience

on Saturday, July 24, 2010

My garden is my pride and joy and it broke my heart to see the beautiful plants being cooked in place in the extreme heat over summer. Combined with the drought conditions, many of these plants appeared to die completely. Then the miracle happened. The inner Resilience of these plants refused to let them die and with the first decent rainfall they seemed to be reborn as green leaves appeared and the grass regenerated. All those plants that would normally have flowered over summer, but had been struggling to just exist, suddenly burst forth into bud. Now the garden is filled with flowers, such as magnolias, flowering completely out of season. It is as if the plants are saying to me, "Look at me. I am beautiful. I'm a survivor!"

Our greatest challenges in life are usually our greatest teachers, whether it be through a difficult relationship, serious illness, caring for terminally ill loved ones, an unexpected job loss, addictive behaviour, being bullied or anything that pushes us well out of our comfort zone. Something I have noticed many times over the years is the difference between people in their ability to cope with challenging life circumstances. The key is their level of Resilience -their ability to pick themselves up again after being knocked down, dust themselves off and get on with life versus getting energetically stuck in the experience, which stops them from moving forward and stunts the opportunity for emotional growth.

This Resilience, or lack thereof, is likely to be the result of genetic predispositions involved, the available repertoire of coping skills and other people's responses to the person. Often that person will soon realize there are secondary gains by getting stuck in 'poor me' victim mentality, such as getting extra care from others and being able to avoid certain responsibilities. Unfortunately these perceived secondary gains deny the opportunity to develop Resilience and to fully participate in a joyful, high vibration life of the present.

If you are stuck in the past, blaming all your current misery on events that happened long ago, isn't about time you gave yourself the gift of letting all those heavy vibrations go and allowing yourself to see the beauty that is all around you now? After all, the Law of Attraction states that we get what we focus on, so why not make it something pleasurable? Walk in a park, watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset, stroll along the beach, treat yourself to a soul-nurturing activity. Just because things were really bad for you for a while and you may have experienced a whole range of emotions like anger, frustration, sadness, grief, depression, despair and helplessness, that doesn't mean that you have to hold onto those emotions and allow them to manifest in the body as disease (dis-ease) and disharmony. Have you ever watched a child go from crying in frustration to happily playing within a few seconds, just because a child feels the e-motion (energy in motion), expresses it and then lets it go?

Even if you are currently undergoing major life challenges now, search deep within yourself to find that inner power, that Resilience, those coping skills that will help you to find the meaning to the experience and to learn any lessons it has to offer.

Just remember the plants in my garden - when they were so battered by the extreme conditions over summer that it looked as if they had given up, they still held onto the thread of life force deep within that allowed them once again to burst forth into their magnificence. No matter what challenges life throws at you, stand tall and proud and let your true beauty bloom.

How To Find Inner Stillness

For many people the most difficult thing to master in their self-development journey is the ability to find Inner Stillness, that pure place within you that is your divine spark, your connection to all that is and the source of inspirational and transformational ideas.

I would like to share with you a relatively simple technique I have developed that most people interested in self-development will be able to master with a little practice.

First, find yourself a quiet, comfortable place where you can lie undisturbed for about 20 minutes. As a "fascinated observer" focus on your right hand and become aware of the tingling sensations in your right hand. This may take a couple of minutes to develop, but please persevere, as getting this part right makes the rest much easier. Then notice this tingly feeling spread over the whole right hand and arm and notice how you are beginning to lose awareness of the physical arm and just feel its expanded energy field.

While still maintaining the feelings above, now do the same thing with the left hand and arm until you just feel them as a mass of energy.

Continue the same process individually with the right foot, the right leg, the left foot, the left leg, then the trunk of the body - all tingling as you lose the physical sense of them one by one.

Then, be a fascinated observer to the mind chatter in the head and as you observe it in a neutral manner, it will switch off fairly quickly.

Focus gently on observing your breathing and feel inside where the breath is going. At a certain point shortly after that you will feel a definite energetic shift as you lose all sense of your physical body, becoming a mass of tingling energy instead - pure consciousness.

Stay in this wonderful space for as long as desired. It is from this place of pure Inner Stillness that you really feel yourself as Soul, with opportunities for the most amazing synchronicities and 'coincidences' in your life, helping you to move forward in ways you would never have imagined possible.

This makes a wonderfully rewarding daily meditation practice.

How to Expand Your Energy

Notice how you feel when you are depressed, disappointed, feeling hopeless, grieving or broken-hearted. Hopefully these feelings don't occur too often for you, but when they do you will become aware of how contracted and constricted you feel in your heart and overall energy field. It is almost as it you shrink into yourself and withdraw from the world. A contracted energy field equals lowered physical energy and overall vitality.
Just at a point in time when you could really do with some love and support, your contracting energy field is likely to get the opposite result - a feeling of intense loneliness.
Don't get me wrong, it is normal and healthy to experience a full range of emotions as they arise, good and bad. The difference is that, unlike children who can be angry one minute and then playing happily the next, many adults tend to get stuck in their emotions and subconsciously struggle to expand their constricted energy field again.
Now just stop and think of something really beautiful or that makes you happy and notice how instantly you feel your heart, chest and overall energy field expanding.
If you are not sure what your energy field is, it is the electromagnetic field around your body, popularly termed the aura. Certain sensitive people may be able to see the shimmering energy field around someone, just by looking at that person with 'sleepy' slightly defocused eyes. Most of us can't actually see our energy field, yet we sense it is there and we intuitively know whether it is expanded or contracted by how we feel.

Try this interesting exercise:
•Find a quiet place to meditate
•Close your eyes and tune in to how far away from your body you sense the boundary of your energy field (a bit like an invisible wall, commonly up to about 1 metre from your physical body)
•Have the intention to consciously expand your energy field and its boundary to fill the room, as you breathe deeply.
•Continue consciously expanding your energy field in sequential steps in the following order: throughout the building you are in; across 1 km or mile; around the suburb / town; across the state; across the country and around the world.
•You will have a wonderfully expanded sense of awareness and are now a vibrational match for that which you seek
•Have the intention to now draw to you vibrationally those people and events that will help you reach your full potential.
•Stay in this wonderfully empowering expanded energy state for as long as you want as you go about your daily activities
•Ideally, with practice, holding this expanded energy field will become your natural way of being.

Just being aware of and participating in some of the following things that naturally expand your energy field will assist in this process:
•Spending time in nature
•Playing with animals and children
•Letting go of emotional baggage
•Reclaiming your power
•Forgiving yourself and/or others
•Honouring and nurturing yourself
•Making playtime a regular part of your life
•Laughing out loud
•Listening to beautiful music
•Having prosperity consciousness
•Making lifestyle changes to address stresses and frustrations
•Being content with what you already have materially
•Working in whatever nourishes you at a soul level

Of course, if you avoid doing most of the above, you are likely to feel devitalised with a constricted, contracted energy field, cut off from reaching your full potential either personally or professionally.
Take these first steps today to living in expanded energy and awareness.

FORGIVENESS

'Many researchers think forgiveness - a virtue embraced by almost every religious tradition as a balm for the soul - may be medicine for the body. They have shown that "forgiveness interventions" - often just a couple of short sessions in which the wounded are guided towards positive feelings for an offender - can improve cardiovascular function, diminish chronic pain, relieve depression and boost quality of life among the very ill.

While much of the early work on forgiveness has focused on forgiveness of others, academic psychologists and clinicians are turning up evidence that forgiving oneself may have a more powerful effect on overall health and wellbeing.'

(Above is an extract from Los Angeles Times article published in the Sydney Morning Herald 22 Feb. 2008)

- By Forgiving we are not doing the person who wronged us a
favour.
- The gift of Forgiveness is for ourselves.
- By Forgiving we reclaim our power from the person who has
hurt us.
- Forgive and free yourself from the energy of crippling, corrosive
emotions like anger and bitterness
- Forgiving does not mean forgetting, only that we are now willing to detach from the emotional impact of the memory, while keeping the learning.
- Forgiveness does not need to be instant and may mean forgiving in incremental steps.
- Forgiving others is the necessary step before forgiving ourselves.
- Unforgiveness of self leads to our own disapproval with dire effects on our own self-esteem, confidence and health.
- By Forgiving we mark the end of an era and can start moving towards a new future of our choice.

Affirmation of Forgiveness and Atonement
In a quiet space, preferably with your hands on your heart, try saying the affirmation below out loud to heal a damaged relationship, family issues or to make peace in your mind with anyone who has hurt you.
I don’t know why you did what you did,
And I don’t know why you said what you said,
And I don’t know why you are the way you are,
But I accept that’s where you need to be now,
And I forgive you and I forgive myself.
I release all anger, bitterness and resentment,
Past or present,
And I release us both in my love.
And so be it.

BREAKING THROUGH BARRIERS

on Friday, June 25, 2010

How often have you procrastinated about starting something important, creating unnecessary anxiety and worry, when it would have been a lot simpler and less stressful to just do it and get it out of the way? For many people the answer is probably more times than they care to remember.

What causes us to know what we should do and yet we seem almost incapable of taking that first step towards accomplishing it? The answer is that our conscious mind is like the tip of the iceberg, with the vast majority of our patterns and beliefs residing in the 90% of our mind that we term the subconscious. Most of these patterns and beliefs are established in early childhood, when we have limited coping strategies available to us, and these limiting patterns are then replayed over and over each time the subconscious mind perceives a similar event to the initial one in which the pattern/belief was established. We get stuck in a groove that just keeps getting deeper and deeper, unless we learn to view our behaviours objectively and break free of our limiting patterns and beliefs.

In the procrastination example above, common subconscious reasons for not starting something include:
• Fear of being adversely judged
• Fear of Failure
• Fear of the Unknown
• Perfectionist tendencies, and interestingly enough
• Fear of Success

Some people are even very talented subconsciously at manifesting illness as a way of avoiding responsibility or as a subconscious excuse not to challenge themselves.

CLUES you can get about those limiting beliefs, patterns and behaviours still operating repeatedly in your subconscious mind since childhood include:

1. Your relationships with other people
Do you repeatedly draw the same kind of people into your life, for instance, ones that don't value, respect or nurture you? Hard as it may be for you to accept, the mirror is being held up for you to look at yourself and see how you are not valueing, respecting or nurturing yourself. Each of these painful relationships that you draw into your life is an opportunity to reflect your inner beliefs about yourself. Usually the buttons others push in us the most are indicating what we most need to change in ourselves. For instance, if you say to your partner, "I deserve someone better than you", then consciously you may believe that, but subconsciously you have attracted exactly the partner you deserve according to your subconscious belief system about yourself.

Sure it is easier to blame and shame others for our own inadequacies and to be in denial that we need to work on ourselves, but this will just keep us stuck repeating the old destructive patterns.

What you accuse the other person of in the heat of an argument is often the very thing you need to look at in yourself. "But, but..." I hear you protest. Just try to observe yourself objectively next time you argue with someone. Often the mere act of being the observer is the trigger you need to become aware of your subconscious beliefs and the ridiculousness of the argument.

2. What you say to yourself when you are feeling really down
Sometimes when we get to the point where it all becomes a bit much too cope with, we lose our emotional equilibrium and start to berate ourselves, liberally pouring out limiting beliefs from that reservoir of the subconscious mind. In such a situation write these down, as these are the core limiting beliefs we still have about ourselves, no matter how much we might try to deny it. Common subconscious beliefs that come up at such times may include, "I am useless / worthless / a failure. I'll never be any good at anything." These are the Biggies that subconsciously sabotage our efforts to move forward in life and reach our full potential.

3. Negative self-talk
Ever caught yourself thinking "What an idiot!" after you made a simple mistake? This is an example of negative self-talk, which is a reflection of your beliefs at the subconscious level.

Once again, intend to be the observer and notice when you spontaneously have one of these negative thoughts. You may then like to view yourself as a gardener, pulling out the negative thoughts like weeds from your mind so that more positive thoughts can flourish. Practising this technique consistently will dissolve a whole lot of previously subconscious limiting beliefs.

AWARENESS THROUGH OBSERVATION is the key to breaking through and dissolving limiting and outmoded beliefs, habits and patterns. You can do much of this work for yourself. To make the process even quicker and easier you may like to try Hypnotherapy to identify limiting subconscious beliefs and patterns and their origins and then experience a powerful resolution of them.

Bliss

I sat among the flowers and prayed,
My emotions filled to overflowing.
Tears of joy descending unchecked,
My heart full of love was glowing.

Connected to God, connected to Earth,
In pure bliss of contentment floating.
No more feeling alone, frightened and lost,
My soul in a happy home dwelling.

Gone was my struggle with the demons within,
My shadow dissolved by the light.
Love lit my soul with its magical spark.
The whole world was filled with His might.

AROMATHERAPY

on Monday, June 14, 2010

Aromatherapy has been used across many cultures since ancient times. Ancient Egyptians used specific aromatherapy oils as they were mummifying a body. On the heads of guests they also placed scented wax cones that would melt progressively releasing the fragrances of the essential oils. In modern-day France, famous for its high quality lavender oils, essential oils can be used internally instead of medicine by trained aromatherapists. Most countries restrict aromatherapy oils to external applications.

Aromatherapy uses the scents and chemical properties of essential oils to affect our emotions and moods as well as healing on a physical level. These are commonly used in oil burners (6 drops), massage oils (1 drop essential oil : 2 mls carrier oil), several drops in a bath or on a tissue. Use whichever oils you are drawn to or try any of the following. 2 or 3 oils may be blended together:

• Calming and Balancing lavender, marjoram, geranium, chamomile or mandarin

• Overthinking and Worry Relief sandalwood, frankincense, geranium, clary sage or vetiver

• Concentration and Memory Improvement rosemary, peppermint, basil, pine or lemon

• Invigorating and Uplifting orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, peppermint

• Sensual and Erotic ylang ylang, jasmine, rose, patchouli

• Tension and Frustration Relief bergamot, orange, neroli

• Overburdened and Humourless Relief lemon and jasmine together

Try luxuriating in a warm bath with your favourite aromatherapy essential oils for a special treat. Remember that so-called aromatherapy oils marked ‘fragrance oil’ are synthetic and do not have any of the healing properties of pure essential oils. You get what you pay for.

Despite its high price tag, pure rose oil is probably the best oil for opening the heart to love and joy. Jasmine and neroli oils also work well and are a more affordable price.

Tea-tree oil is a must have for first aid as an antiseptic, for mouth ulcers or for fungal complaints, including thrush. Remember to dilute it heavily in water first. Peppermint oil can neutralize even the strongest odours. Neat lavender oil takes the itchiness out of insect bites, provided the skin is not broken. Bergamot is extremely effective for getting rid of cold sores.

Wherever possible use essential oils like lavender, lemon, orange and peppermint to make your own cleaning agents. Aromatherapy oils can also be added to your own shampoo and cosmetic bases as well as homemade soaps. These reduce the number of toxic synthetic fragrances in your environment, lessening the burden on your immune system and assisting you in holding a higher vibration.

SOUND HEALING

It has only been over the last year or so that I am beginning to understand just how powerful Sound is as healing force. As a stand-alone vibrational healing tool I feel it has been under-rated for too long.

Meditating and toning as a group in pristine Tasmanian rainforest in 2007 sent our vibrations soaring as we focused on toning into our own chakras one by one, starting from the base up to beyond the crown to the 12th chakra or cosmic gateway. Using the light code activation sound and colour mandalas of Soluntra King was an unforgettable experience in vibration raising at the huge power tree of the forest.

On the 2007 Spiritual Egypt Tour I was blessed to have attracted many highly talented vibrational healers skilled across a broad range of vibrational modalities. Our skills culminated together in the King’s Chamber and the Queen’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid as each one of us did what we do best there. One diminutive lady had an extraordinary gift with channeling very powerful sounds she feels come from Sirius. The whole interior of the Great Pyramid, which we had to ourselves, reverberated with the intensity of this sound and at that point all of us were changed forever. For me, the experience was like having all my neural circuitry blown apart to be recallibrated at a higher vibration.

In 2008 my beautiful dog and best friend, Sophie, put up a long, brave fight against cancer, which she finally lost in August. The months leading up to her death had seen her in gradual decline, needing more and more nursing, with more and more time spent indoors. As a result the vibration of my home started to lower and at the point of Sophie’s death seemed to go into an energy void or numbness. As my home is also my workplace I needed to get its vibration and my own vibration quickly back to a level that was suitable for doing healing work with clients. At first I was just doing all the usual things - white candles constantly alight, aromatherapy oils to clear grief and be uplifting, airing the house out as much as possible, cleaning, salt lamps constantly on to absorb negativity and space clearing essence sprays. Then I became aware that the most powerful and quickest way of raising the vibration was through Sound and lots of it. Using the Tibetan singing bowl, I was clanging vigorously throughout the house. Interestingly, I seemed to intuitively follow particular rhythms in particular areas of the house. Those areas where Sophie had spent most time needed extremely loud and vigorous sounding of the Tibetan bowl to break up the stuck and blocked energy. Each day of the clearing procedure the rhythms were intuitively changing, as if this were all some part of a well-ordered sequence I had done many times before as an ancient priest/ess. My healing room developed a very sacred feel to it like an ancient temple. In addition I needed to have healing and uplifting music playing very loud for as many hours as possible, making even the floor vibrate. Thankfully the neighbours didn’t complain.

I have come to the conclusion that healing Sound is probably the best way to clear an area or person and to raise the vibration.

Ohm (om, aum) is the sound of creation and its vibration purifies, stills and manifests. Ohm is a sacred healing sound and can be used to release energetic blockages held within the body. When sounded properly as the combination of aah, oh, mm, it stimulates the third eye and crown chakras. Ohm can also alter the vibration of matter, causing fine sand on a metal plate to fall into a geometrical pattern – amazingly the ancient Hebrew symbol for ohm. It is the sound traditionally chanted in Indian temples to clear the way for enlightenment. Even sounding it or any other healing sound out loudly in your mind will have beneficial effects. Other sounds like heavy metal music, sirens, fax tones, loud television, public transport, many commercials, building site power tools and heavy machinery all shatter our energy field leaving us feeling tired and stressed with compromised immune systems. Many urban dwellers are constantly subjected to shattering sound, or ‘noise pollution’. How good does it feel to escape the raucous sounds of the city and hear the gentle sounds of the birds and the bush, or the sounds of rolling waves?

Soothing relaxation music enhances your enjoyment of your self-healing or self-nurturing session. Although any quiet music can be used according to taste, Baroque music, such as Bach, Vivaldi or Handel, is particularly beneficial due to its unique harmonic structure. Most guided visualisation tapes use relaxing background music and can enhance the benefits of the self-treatment experience.

The scale of C major is perfectly linked to the 8 major chakras, starting with C for the base chakra, D for the sacral chakra, E for the solar plexus and so on up to C for the high crown chakra, located a few centimetres above the crown chakra. If you suspect a block in a chakra try playing/listening to the corresponding note repeatedly to help loosen the block. I have a set of 8 tuning forks corresponding to the C major scale and also the first 8 chakras, up to the high crown. It is an interesting exercise to activate the vibration of the tuning fork and then bring it down gently over the corresponding chakra until the person experiences a pleasant tingly vibration in that chakra.

Often the heart chakra contains stubborn energetic blockages that we unconsciously resist letting go of, often through fear of not being able to handle the underlying emotional hurt or sadness. At a Reiki workshop I was running on the second floor of a clinic a few years ago we were all practicing in pairs. By ‘coincidence’ everyone was working on the heart chakra when a crow flew into an electrical substation a few metres away and exploded loudly in a flash of light. Everyone’s heart chakra was shocked into releasing energetic blocks instantly! Maybe that’s why I also like to stand very close to the massive loud speakers at open air music events, as it gives all my chakras a really good clearing out!

BREATHING/TONING RELEASES
A particularly powerful form of self-healing is to focus on the body discomfort held around a particular issue. On the inhale, deep breathe that discomfort up to the throat and then exhale it out fully with sound. Initially you might start breathing the discomfort out with a long, loud sigh or ‘ohm’. For those people who are too self-conscious to make a sound out loud or are not in a private enough space, it is still effective to just ‘yell’ the sound out in the mind. Ideally the sound that has been trapped in the area of discomfort will start to come out with the exhale. It can be any sound at all and maybe even trapped words, often the ‘not so nice’ ones. Make sure you open your throat chakra to allow the release, especially if you have not been used to speaking out.

Once the release of the blocked energy causing the body discomfort has been completed, the sound on the exhale will just naturally stop. Allow yourself to let the breathing return to normal. There may be several layers of an issue to be cleared, so check back to see if any body discomfort remains. If so, repeat the breathing/toning procedure. To complete the process, allow the void that has been created by releasing the trapped energy to be filled with whatever the body needs for healing, maybe love, peace, joy, or white light.

Clearings done with this breathing and toning technique tend to create rapid, powerful shifts in energy.

TIBETAN BOWLS AND CYMBALS
The haunting sound of Tibetan singing bowls vibrating can not only quickly clear your chakras, but sends you into a deep meditative state effortlessly. It is the quickest way I know for calming someone and bringing them into balance. Although it takes a bit of practice to get the bowl to ‘sing’, it is worth the effort. If you know of others with Tibetan singing bowls of different sizes, arrange a group gathering and experiment with the sound effects of different size bowls. You may like to lay the bowls on a person’s different chakras and then play them intuitively and then reverse roles and experience this for yourself. I often clear my own energy in between clients by placing the Tibetan bowl on my head, striking it and just letting the vibrations shower down through my body.

I use the Tibetan bowl as the quickest and most effective way to clear my healing space in between clients, as well as for clearing the accumulated client ‘dross’ from my healing room crystals. I also use the Tibetan cymbals for this purpose, but I find their vibration is more refined and needs a little longer to clear the energy.

Exercise: Toning into Chakras in a Group
Get a volunteer who would like her chakras to be balanced. Hold the intention to rebalance the chakras for the highest good. You may also like to ask that the angels of healing work through your voices. All take in a breath and tone towards the volunteer. Allow whatever sound wants to come out just to flow without judgment. It is likely the group will subconsciously combine the toning into a harmonious whole. Mentally direct the sound to her crown chakra. When you have finished, direct the sound to the third eye, then the throat, completing the toning into each chakra before moving onto the next. Tone into the front of the chakras to the base and then up the back chakras. Discuss the experience.

Exercise: 20-Minute Ohm
If you can do this with a Group the effect is even more powerful. Chanting Ohm mindfully in a sacred space for twenty minutes vibrates through every cell of your body and raises your vibration.

Go creative and experiment combining sound with other vibrational modalities. For instance, if you have a Tibetan singing bowl use a crystal in it while you are playing it or use a couple of drops of a flower essence in it to accentuate both.

Enjoy discovering the delights of healing with sound.

GIVING / RECEIVING

Working in the healing industry tends to draw compassionate, caring people as practitioners. Although this is ideally what clients / patients want from health professionals like counsellors, naturopaths, social workers, hypnotherapists, psychologists and so on, the common problem is that such practitioners usually are so busy giving to their clients that they forget to give back to themselves or have closed themselves off from receiving as much as they should energetically to remain energetically balanced. If the two sides of the giving/receiving equation are not balanced, the result is physical and emotional burnout. The average time in the healing industry before complete burnout is 8 years. I’ve been in this industry since 1995 and have had a few rocky patches where my energy levels were getting very low from giving out far more than I was receiving back, so I have learnt to recognise the signs of impending burnout by trial and error. We don’t need to necessarily receive back from the same person the same amount of energy we give to them, although this is the ideal wherever possible. If you are in professional practice you should ensure your fees cover your perceived energy expenditure.

Basically, in order to stay physically and emotionally healthy we must balance out what we give out energetically with what we receive back.

I have used the example of health care practitioners, but mothers, wives, in fact females in general are often giving out far more than they receive. The result? A build-up of resentment, frustration, low tolerance to stress, exhaustion, victim-mentality, martyr-mentality, ‘when will it be my turn’ mentality and just plain angry outbursts. Can you relate to any of these?

Sometimes we need to make substantial lifestyle changes to get away from this trap, such as letting go of a relationship or friend that just continually drains us energetically. I affectionately call such people, ‘energy vampires’, although most of them are not consciously aware of trying to drain our energy. They do it at subtle levels just because our energy fields allow it. If your job just feels as if it is draining the very life-blood out of you, then you may seriously need to consider changing jobs or even careers.

Many of us have low self-worth and almost feel duty-bound to keep on giving out relentlessly to justify our existence without feeling worthy of receiving anything back in return. Wrong! We all contain a divine spark within us that unites us together as equal parts of creation. We are never separate or inferior. Separation is the illusion we have to give ourselves a hard time. Stop viewing yourself as inferior to, or better than someone else - we are all just souls who have chosen different bodies this lifetime in which to learn spiritual lessons.

It is essential we are comfortable receiving from others and especially receiving from ourselves, as this is an expression of self-love. Many times others are offering us love or potential happiness, but our hearts are closed to receiving it or we feel we are not valuable enough to receive it. Think for a moment if there are any situations in your life where you are closed to or blocking receiving the goodness being offered to you. It may be something simple like a neighbour offering to help with the gardening or more dramatic like a marriage proposal from a really decent person.

How do you support yourself to make up any energetic deficits in your life? Maybe you could give yourself a special present or treat, like a relaxation massage, a weekend escape or dinner with a special friend? Being in nature is one of the best ways of clearing negative energy from yourself and of receiving the beauty of nature with all your senses. Standing in full sun for a few minutes is also a marvellous quick energetic pick-me-up.

Most of us don’t have any trouble in giving, but if you realise you have trouble in receiving, then it is essential you address your underlying issues of low self-worth and the value you place on what you give out on a daily basis.

FORGIVENESS AFFIRMATIONS

on Sunday, June 6, 2010

One of the most powerful gifts we can give ourselves is to forgive, both ourselves and others. In forgiving we are not condoning the behaviour of the person we perceive as having wronged us, but rather we are allowing ourselves to break the hold that person has on our lives. Feeling anger towards that person may have been well-justified, but unless it is dealt with and processed it becomes a corrosive aspect in our bodies, leading to physical disease and emotional illness. Holding onto feelings of anger or revenge are likely to be hurting us rather than the original perpetrator, with whom we may not have had any contact for years, or worse still, who may have already passed over. Do you really want to hurt yourself as well by not forgiving?

Even if you feel you can only make baby steps towards forgiving someone, at least forgive yourself for having allowed yourself to be caught up in the drama for so long. Give yourself the gift of forgiveness.

Below are a couple of my favourite forgiveness affirmations:

FORGIVENESS AFFIRMATION

I forgive everyone who has ever hurt or harmed me, consciously or unconsciously, in this lifetime or any other, in this universe, dimension, plane or level of existence or any other.
I offer them grace.
I ask forgiveness for everything I have ever done to hurt or harm another, consciously or unconsciously, in this lifetime or any other, in this universe, dimension, plane or level of existence or any other.
I ask for grace.
I forgive myself for everything I have ever done to hurt or harm another, consciously or unconsciously, in this lifetime or any other, in this universe, dimension, plane or level of existence or any other.
I accept grace.
I am free. All chains and restrictions fall from me. I stand in my full power as a master.

AFFIRMATION OF FORGIVENESS & ATONEMENT

I don't know why you did what you did,
And I don't know why you said what you said,
And I don't know why you are the way you are,
But I accept that's where you need to be now,
And I forgive you and I forgive myself.
I release all anger, bitterness and resentment,
Past or present,
And I release us both in my love.
And so be it.

Exercise: Reclaiming Your Power
All those that you have ever perceived as having wronged you have at a soul level presented themselves to you as opportunities to learn. If you haven't learnt the lesson, then the other person has also failed in teaching you. Connect to the divine spark in all of them and feel yourself reclaiming your own power directly from the limitless supply of Divine Power. Forgive yourself for allowing yourself to be caught up in the drama of unforgiveness for so long. See and feel yourself rising up above the circumstances and letting them crumble away below.

Exercise: Forgiveness of Self and Others
Think of a person who has wronged you and for whom there is still bad feeling. Place your hands over your heart with the intention to channel energy to your heart. Read the affirmation of forgiveness and atonement words, with feeling, in your mind and channel energy for 10 minutes or until you feel a shift in your heart. Don’t be surprised if you experience tears as a release as you forgive yourself allowing you to move forward with grace.

SELF-HYPNOSIS FOR HEALING

“Hypnosis” comes from the Greek word ipnos meaning “sleep”, but really hypnosis is not a sleep state, rather a natural state of deep relaxation. For most people this means lowering the brainwave frequency from waking (beta) to (alpha), the same level as in meditation. Some experienced meditators may just naturally drop into the lower (theta) brainwave range during hypnosis, a level at which we start to merge in and out of conscious awareness, but we are not asleep and our subconscious mind is fully alert.
Many people are under the misconception that hypnosis is something magical and mystical where we totally lose awareness of where we are and what is happening to us. No wonder some people are frightened of hypnosis! I have also had a number of people ringing me up to “take the spell/curse off them” that someone has allegedly put on them with “hypnosis”. It seems hypnosis is akin to voodoo for some.
The reality, however, is that hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation where the activity of the conscious mind slows down while the subconscious mind remains alert and active. It is a form of focused concentration by the subconscious mind. Have you ever tried to communicate to someone watching their favourite show on television, only to be met with absolutely no response? Well that person has been “hypnotized” by the TV set and their conscious mind has been switched down or off, so consciously they really are not hearing you. Obviously at some level they are comfortable like this otherwise the conscious mind would not allow itself to relax down this way.
There is a well-known saying in hypnotherapy circles, “All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.” No one can force you to be hypnotised against your will. Even that 35% of the population with controlling personalities will often need extra support and guidance to surrender control temporarily during a hypnotherapy session.
The main difference between meditation and hypnosis is that in meditation the person often has the intention to turn off both the conscious and subconscious mind through use of something like the mantra “ohm”, whereas in hypnosis the subconscious mind remains alert and active. Of course this distinction blurs when we listen to a guided meditation or visualisation on a CD as we are keeping the subconscious mind active and are actually doing self-hypnosis.
A vividly imagined scene or experience in a relaxed hypnotic state is interpreted as reality by the subconscious mind, so it is little wonder self-hypnosis has the potential to be an amazing healing tool for personal growth and stress management.

Effective self-hypnosis will include finding a quiet place to sit or lie comfortably for at least 20 minutes where you will not be disturbed, creating a relaxing ambience with a rug, and maybe relaxation music, candles and aromatherapy oils. Set your intention for the session, such as for relaxation, getting rid of emotional rubbish, detaching yourself from troublesome people and so on. You may like to record some self-hypnosis scripts in your voice, being conscious of timing, intonation and voice modulation. If you don’t like listening to the sound of your own voice, you may like to get a friend to record it in their voice. Alternatively, just memorize the basic outline of a script and you will be able to lead yourself through it in trance.
Each of your self-hypnosis sessions should ideally start with an Induction, such as deep breathing, to start relaxing down, a Deepening Technique, such as walking down steps, to deepen the relaxation even further, a Healing Focus for the session and then a Count-up to bring you back to full waking consciousness when you are ready. You might also like to imagine setting a timer on a clock at the start of your self-hypnosis so that the timer goes off after the desired number of minutes and brings you back to full waking consciousness.
If I get a short break in between clients I will often drop into a “power nap” mini self-hypnosis with the intention to be back at full alertness five minutes before my next client arrives. Works every time, regardless of whether the client is early or late!
Never listen to guided visualizations or self-hypnosis scripts while driving a car or operating machinery. Self-hypnosis is contraindicated for people suffering from grand mal epilepsy or psychosis as there is a slight risk the altered brainwave state may trigger an episode.

PERSONAL SPACE CLEARING

on Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Especially for professional healers, it is extremely important to clear your energy field from any of another person’s energetic “garbage” that you may inadvertently have taken on during that person’s healing session - a time when your energy field is connected to your client’s.

Everyone can benefit from the simple techniques below to help keep you free of energetic dross from others and from your environment. After all, most of us have enough of our own issues to deal with, without taking on board others’ as well!

DRY BATHING TECHNIQUE
This simple technique is from Reiki and is called Ken Yoku.

To clear your energies rapidly from another or after leaving a stressful environment, you can

a. With your right hand: firmly stroke down your body from the top of your left shoulder across to your right hip.
b. With your left hand: firmly stroke down your body from the top of your right shoulder across to your left hip.
c. With your right hand: firmly stroke down your body from the top of your left shoulder across to your right hip.
d. With your right hand: firmly stroke down your left arm - from shoulder to right off fingertips.
e. With your left hand: firmly stroke down your right arm - from shoulder to right off fingertips.

This technique is also a very quick way of grounding yourself.

WHITE LIGHT SHOWER
To cleanse your energy field when you have been in a place of discordant energies, such as at a shopping centre, crowd, tense work place or airport you can use the white light shower technique. It is also good to clear yourself after doing healing work for another or just to get rid of the day’s accumulated energetic dross.

Imagine standing under a shower and turning on the tap. Instead of water, a shower of white light flows over you. Feel it cleansing, clearing and washing away all negativity, scattered energies and other people’s rubbish. You can adjust the pressure of this white light shower with the tap, increasing it if there is some particularly stubborn energetic rubbish to shift. Very soon you will feel tingly fresh from the top of the head to the tips of the toes and then you can just turn off the tap.

GOLDEN GLITTER ANGEL SHOWER
To cleanse your energy field you may like to ask the angels to shower you with their golden glitter energy that descends over you in a shower, covering your entire energy field. You may prefer to be showered with pink rose petals for unconditional love and to clear the heart. Either way, just allow the shower to continue for as long as the higher forces deem necessary to clear you, leaving you glowing all over and your vibration significantly raised.

TIBETAN BOWLS AND CYMBALS
If you have ever heard Tibetan bowls or symbols being played you will know how quickly they transfix you with their sound. As well as shifting energies quickly during a healing session, the sound of the Tibetan bowls and/or cymbals is great for rapidly shifting negative energies in a space before or after you use it, such as a healing area, home or office environment. Use liberally for clearing if you feel or suspect unpleasant energies on entering a room.

NLP REFRAMING & ANCHORING

NLP REFRAMING OF STORED ANGER

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Reframing is easy to do to shift anything from a negative or blocked state into a clear or positive state. The basic technique is the same, no matter what the issue.

First of all find what part of the body is holding on to the negative emotion. For instance, the liver commonly holds on to stored anger. Imagine what this trapped anger feels like with all your senses. What shape is it? What size is it? What colour is the anger? Is the anger hard or soft, rough or smooth? Is there a sound associated with it? All these questions are designed to get a clear perception of the anger so that it can be reframed. If you don’t know the answer to one of the questions, if you did know, what would the answer be?

Commonly the colours experienced will be red or dark, and the block will usually be perceived as hard. Gradually imagine reframing each of the aspects one by one, maybe in several steps each, to something light and soft and completely different to the original feeling of anger. For instance a large, hard, red, oval, rough block of anger with an abusive sound could be reframed in the following sequence:
- Reframe (imagine) changing the colour to bright yellow
- Reframe the yellow to white
- Reframe the shape to a ball shape
- Reframe it to soft cotton wool
- Reframe the abusive sound to gentle relaxation music
- Shrink it down to be really tiny until it disappears and the block is gone.

This technique is surprisingly powerful and is great for using with kids for rapid results. It can be used for just about anything you can imagine in our body, even pain. As the volunteer for a class demonstration of this technique during my hypnotherapy training, I was totally amazed that the pain I had been experiencing in severely overstrained muscles I had got the day before disappeared completely after several reframes.

NLP ANCHORING OF JOYFUL FEELINGS

NLP commonly uses “anchors” to lock desired feelings into the subconscious mind so they can be retrieved at will, or even automatically, by re-activating the anchor. This works really well for things like retrieving feelings of confidence before public speaking, calmness before entering anxiety-provoking situations and so on. The anchor I commonly use is to press the thumb and the forefinger of the left hand together when the desired feelings are being vividly experienced. This is processed by the right hemisphere of the brain, the creative part, and is locked into the subconscious mind. To retrieve the good feelings, just press the thumb and the forefinger together again and the good feelings come flooding back. The key is to be experiencing the feelings clearly when the anchor is initially formed.

Exercise: Imagine a time when you were having fun, filled with the joy of being alive, feeling your heart wide open and joyful. Often this will be a happy memory from childhood. Make this memory real, bold, vivid, clear and get those joyful feelings as strong as you can. When those joyful feelings are at their peak, press the thumb and the forefinger of the left hand together to create your anchor. Hold for a minute then release. Get those good feelings strong again and then reinforce the anchor again. Release. Now any time you want to reclaim these joyful feelings, just press the thumb and the forefinger of the left hand together again to re-trigger the anchor.

If you are convinced you do not have any happy, fun-filled memories to relate to, just imagine how you would have felt if you had felt joyful at any time and use these feelings as the basis for your anchor.

HEALING THE INNER CHILD

Even though our conscious mind knows we should not behave or react in a certain way to certain people or situations, we often do it anyway! We know we shouldn’t turn red in the face and sweat when we have to talk to our boss, we know we shouldn’t procrastinate getting our assignment done and we know we shouldn’t keep attracting the same kind of inappropriate partners, but we don’t seem to have any control over our actions. The truth is that in these examples it is not the adult self running the show, but a number of our wounded child selves that keep replaying the same programming set into the subconscious mind at the time of the original traumatic event. For instance, the person who gets extremely nervous around “authority” figures is often just replaying how they acted in front of their school teacher; the procrastinator will often be scared to start something from childhood fear of his effort being ridiculed by teachers or students; and the person who keeps attracting the wrong kind of partner may have a child part still desperately seeking a good relationship with the opposite sex parent who shares similarities with the unsuitable partners.

Each of us has many wounded inner child parts of different ages that still continue to run our behaviours and beliefs, even as adults. Commonly when these inner child parts are accessed during hypnotic regression they are fearful, angry, sad or feel abandoned. Without hypnosis you will probably also be able to recall clear memories from your childhood when you felt afraid, sad, alone, angry or other negative emotions.

In order to resolve these hurting inner child parts you need to help them take back their power from any “persecutor” figures and/or to find love. This can be done in a number of ways. Try to vividly imagine/revivify the traumatic scene with your traumatised child part and bring into the scene your adult self for comfort and strength. (Obviously if the trauma has been extreme, such as childhood sexual abuse, do not try to do this on your own, but seek professional help.) Get the adult self to cuddle and talk to the child part and tell her that she knows her better than anyone else and loves her completely. Feel that child part starting to relax a little as she feels safer. Allow the child part to draw upon the adult strengths and resources of the adult part until she is empowered enough to confront her “persecutor”, if there is one. The child part should then tell the persecuting person, often a parent or teacher, how his actions or words have made the child feel and how much it has hurt her. Often the “persecutor” will not realize the harm he has caused and will readily apologise, otherwise get the child to demand an apology and settle for nothing less. If the child part accepts the apology, get the child to reinforce to the persecutor that he must never treat her that way again and order the persecutor to leave or imagine shrinking that person down to the size of an ant, so there is no longer any threat.

With the danger now gone, allow the adult self and the inner child part to give each other a really big hug and feel the unconditional love flowing heart to heart, then allow the child part to flow into the heart of the adult where she is free to be a happy, carefree child. Ask the inner child part, now safely nestled in the adult heart, if there is anything else she still needs in order to feel safe, loved and protected. If anything else is required, call upon an adult part within (ego state) displaying those qualities that would be happy to support the child part from this point forwards. Usually there will be ego states like Nurturer, Courage, Strength and Protector that are happy to assist. Keep checking back with the inner child part until she doesn’t require anything else to feel safe, loved and happy and therefore she can release her previous behaviour pattern that had been adversely affecting the adult. You will feel a warm glow in your heart from the contented child. Remember to talk to your inner child often and reassure her of just how much you love her and how she need never try and protect you again. From this point onwards you are here to protect her and she is free to be a carefree child.

Often your collection of inner children just need to get out and play and have fun and be joyous. How often have you resented having to go to work on a beautiful sunny day or needing to get the housework done when you would much rather be out having some laughs with friends? Does that swing in the playground you are driving past look really tempting? Often we just get so caught up in the busy-ness of our adult lives that we suffer from “deferred happiness syndrome” when we put all our “should do’s” on the top of our priority list and we keep putting off the fun things to some point in the future that we never quite get to. Stop! What fun thing are you going to do within the next 6 hours today? Make sure this fun thing becomes your number one priority!

Our inner child parts tend to yell at us in frustration, sadness, loneliness or depression when we constantly ignore their needs to be let out for playtime on a daily basis. Is it any wonder so many busy adults feel so stressed, burnt-out and depressed when they do not factor regular playtime into their lives? Make sure you are not one of them……

I had an interesting Stop Smoking client that even after a couple of hypnotherapy sessions with me could not give up those last few cigarettes. We isolated the problem part, an inner child part that wanted to play and was using the remnant smoking behaviour to get my client’s attention! As soon as the client reassured her inner child she would make a point of playing more with her in certain ways they both agreed upon, my client stopped smoking completely without any further thoughts or cravings for cigarettes! Never underestimate the power of our wounded inner child parts in controlling our adult behaviour.

ENERGY HEALING SELF-TREATMENTS

on Saturday, May 22, 2010

This article will be of great benefit to you, even if you haven’t had any prior experience in healing with energy. Of course, if you are already an experienced healer, the benefits will be even greater.

Benefits:
• Deep relaxation providing healing on all levels, leaving an enduring sense of calm and refreshment;
• Release of old emotional baggage;
• More energy;
• Being able to deal more effectively and objectively with mental, emotional and physical issues; &
• Significant relief of both chronic and acute pain

Have the intention to connect with the universal energy via your crown chakra. Focus and draw in this energy down through the body and hands. You may perceive this as white light or some other colour or as a tingling or warm sensation. However even if you do not obviously feel your connection to the universal energy, holding the pure intention to connect to it will ensure you do.

The energy will flow to wherever it is needed for healing, so just allow yourself to be guided as to where to place your hands on, or even off, your body. Two good all purpose hand positions are on the heart (grief, emotional hurt and relationship issues) and on the solar plexus (fear, emotional congestion, digestive disturbances). Ideally energy self-treatments should be done in a quiet, relaxing space where you will not be disturbed. Always have the intention the healing will be for your highest good, as it is not up to you to guess what the highest good is. Higher forces decide this.

You may also like to include relaxation music, guided visualization, crystals, aromatherapy oils or essences to accentuate the experience of healing. Allow yourself to be creative and find out what works best for you.

Sensations you may experience during an energy self-treatment include feelings of warmth in those areas drawing the most energy, tingling waves through the body as blocks are released and tummy gurgles as stress is released from the mid-section. Many people also report seeing brilliant colours lit with an inner radiance, most notably violet, green, pink, blue and yellow, while others may have old painful memories released from deep in the subconscious mind as those memories are being resolved. Other people don’t consciously experience anything, but are just peacefully relaxed. Each self-treatment is different. Enter into it without expectation and just enjoy the journey. It is natural as you are starting out with energy healing to have issues around trust and confidence that you are actually doing something, but just do it anyway!

Under no circumstances allow yourself to be swayed by people saying they have learnt Reiki, Sekhem, Seichim, etc, etc (so have I!) and therefore they view their energy channeling abilities as somehow superior to yours. Unfortunately there is a lot of ego in so-called spiritual circles. Everyone is capable of making their own personal connection to universal energy without initiations or symbols. After all it was a natural skill for all of us as children. We just need to remember.

The more you practice self-healing, in any form, the quicker you will peel away the old heavy emotional and mental baggage, allowing your vibration to raise to greater joy in your life. Even if energy self-treatments seem difficult for you at first, persist until they become an easy, regular and most of all, enjoyable part of your life. The more regular your practice, the more your channels open and the greater the amount of energy you can access becomes.

SENDING HEALING TO TRAUMATIC PAST EVENTS - known and unknown

Classic unresolved traumatic events for many people include a relationship breakup, the first day at school, being humiliated in front of the class, being a premature baby in the hospital nursery, toxic emotions absorbed in utero or the death of a loved one. These can have far-reaching effects into adulthood as the old fears are replayed over and over in repeating patterns, such as low self-esteem, abandonment issues, procrastination, lack of confidence and grief.

Sending healing to distant events in your past can be a powerful way to break annoying or destructive patterns in your life, even if you do not know the original source of the problem. If your belief system accommodates this, the source may even be in a previous incarnation.

Exercise: Decide on the issue or pattern you want to address and feel where in your body you are carrying most of the physical or emotional discomfort around this issue. If comfortable, place your hands on the affected area and place your full focus there, breathing into the area. If you aren’t sure where the body is holding the discomfort, try placing one hand on the heart and the other on the solar plexus and focusing your attention and breathing there.

Say to yourself something along the lines of, “It is my stated intention to send healing to the very first time, place and circumstances that this problem (name the issue or pattern) I am experiencing first arose” Hold the hand positions, focus and channel energy via your crown chakra through your hands for as long as you desire, but for a minimum of 10 minutes. This can be extremely powerful clearing and you may find tears of release flowing spontaneously or loud sighs as the emotional/mental blocks release. By clearing the issue at its source, all following incidences of a similar nature are also automatically resolved.

QUICK & EASY SELF-HEALING TECHNIQUES

Each and every one of us on a path of personal growth needs a toolbox of quick, easy and powerful techniques to help us release and move beyond our personal issues and blockages. The ones below are some of my personal favourites:

YOGA POSITION FOR CALMNESS AND SLEEP
•Lie on your back or sit with your left ankle over the right ankle.
•Cross your arms with your right arm on top, fingers under your armpits and thumbs on top.
•Focus gently just on the physical sensations in the body, such as tingles and twitches.
•Focus on using your preferred relaxation breathing technique.
•Hold the position for 10 minutes, then uncross the ankles and put your fingertips together in the prayer position. Hold that position for one minute.
•Notice how calm and clear headed you feel.

THE POWER OF NOW
Concentrate your awareness on your 5 senses.
•What can you see around you? Look at the details of colour, shape, size, light, shadow, etc
•Close your eyes and be aware of all the sounds around you.
•Notice physical sensations in the body- comfort or otherwise of the clothing and shoes, temperature, feelings of chair / pillow against the body, etc
•What can you smell?
•What can you taste?

When your attention is 100% in the present moment you are not thinking about the past or the future, so it is impossible to feel anxious. Anxiety is a forward-projected fear.

BODY DISCOMFORT FOCUS
The body contains a cellular memory of all the traumas, both physical and emotional, that it has experienced. Where the original source of the trauma has been resolved there is no discomfort left in the body. However where there is unresolved trauma or stress in the body it is possible to pick up on physical discomfort associated with that problem. Our bodies talk to us clearly, if only we learn to listen to their language. As well as the language of the mind-body connections, anywhere in the body can be telling us it is still holding onto a particular trauma or is calling out for our attention.

Simply by quieting the mind, focusing on an area of body discomfort and having the intention to breathe energy into that area, you can release and therefore resolve trapped emotions. You may also like to place your hands over the affected area for added comfort and heat.

Exercise: Think about an issue that has been bothering you. Imagine it vividly and get a sense of which area of your body has been holding onto the discomfort related to this issue. Get a clear picture in your mind of how this discomfort feels. Note the discomfort level on a scale from 1-10. Focus your out-breath to that region for at least 10 minutes or until a release is obtained. Re-note the remaining discomfort level – ideally the discomfort will have gone completely.

PENDULATION
This works by utilizing the body’s experience of trauma and the body’s experience of resiliency to create a balanced state. To pendulate, bridge with your awareness back and forth between constriction, tightness and the discomfort and relative places of expansion in the body.
•First, explore an area of relative discomfort, then find a place that is far away from or feels most different from the discomfort and tightness and explore it.
•Then, go back and forth, focusing on each of the two places in the body.
•Then add your breath. As you inhale, focus on the area of relative comfort; as you breathe out, focus on the area of relative tension (reverse the order if it brings better results)
•Repeat this cycle for a minimum of 4 times, breathing in the comfort or expansion, breathing out the tension.
•You are likely to notice that the initial discomfort has substantially reduced or has gone completely.

ASKING THE HEART WHAT IT WANTS
When I ask people where they feel their soul is located, the majority of people will automatically put their hand over their heart. It appears the heart represents the gateway to the soul. When you have a decision to make, ask your heart what it wants and this is likely to be a reflection of your soul’s response. I have used the following technique repeatedly and have learnt to trust the answers I receive this way implicitly, even if the logical, analytical mind or the ego is trying to tell me something else.

Relax in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed for at least 10 minutes and breathe deeply to relax and still the mind. Focus on the heart as an observer and begin by asking a question that is an obvious Yes or No answer, such as, “Is my name Daffy Duck?” The individual feeling response of the heart will vary from individual to individual, but generally a “Yes” answer will elicit a feeling of calm and expansiveness in the heart, whereas a “No” answer will get a feeling of heaviness and/or contraction. Try several questions with obvious Yes or No responses to understand how your heart/soul communicates with you. Then you are ready to ask whatever you like that requires a Yes or No answer and you should be able to clearly differentiate between the two.

PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION TECHNIQUE
This is particularly useful for people who find it difficult to relax or who are just starting out with meditation. Lying comfortably on your back bring your focus to the major parts of your body in turn from your feet up to your face and forehead muscles. In sequence clench each area as hard as you can, then give it permission to let go and relax.

A suggested sequence of tensing and relaxation is:
Arches of feet- calf muscles- thighs - buttocks - lower back- abdominals – shoulders- hands- neck muscles- face and forehead muscles.

MEDITATION
Meditation involves a withdrawing of the external senses and a going within, a surrendering to an inner force. The meditative state is a highly relaxed state of altered consciousness between wakefulness and sleep, called an alpha-state.

There are many different forms of meditation and experimenting with all of them on different occasions is a good idea to maintain discipline:
- Mantra repetition, such as “ohm” the sound of creation or the key word of an affirmation, such as “confidence”. Mantras help to switch off mind interference and are especially recommended for meditation beginners.
- Breathing techniques, given above, to focus mind on breath
- Concentration on a fixed object, such as a candle flame
- Quiet contemplation in a place of Nature
- Insight meditation contacting higher self for problem solving and to provide answers. Insight meditation is very useful for gaining clarity on issues that the ego and conscious mind have been hindering.

A good introductory meditation is to focus on a point in a stream as viewed from a bridge. As bits of debris (thoughts) float along the stream acknowledge them and see them pass under the bridge. Do not try to consciously stop your thoughts during meditation. Benefits of meditation build up over time with consistent daily practice.

HANDING PROBLEMS TO THE ANGELS
For those people with a belief in angels, it is very powerful to collect together into a ball all the energy of a problem you are dealing with and then deliberately hand it all over to the angels to fix for you for your highest good and hand it back to you at a higher vibration when they have done so. This allows problems to be sorted out at a higher level and in much more creative ways that most of us think possible. Great for dealing with those nagging relationship issues!

Tips For Healers - Grounding and Centering

on Thursday, May 13, 2010

In order to keep ourselves in good energetic balance as healers we need to develop a daily routine for keeping ourselves centered and grounded. The following techniques are a couple of my favourites:

RAINBOW CENTERING TECHNIQUE
This technique using the colours of the chakras is quick and easy to perform before giving an energy healing or at any other time you need to feel more centred.

Standing with feet slightly apart, imagine bringing red light (base chakra colour) from the earth and up through all the chakras, streaming out from the crown and flowing down the outside of the body to the feet. You will now be encased in rich, glowing red.

Repeat this procedure for each of the other chakras in the following order, allowing each new colour to be drawn up from the earth and cascade down the outside of the other colours around the body to the feet:

Orange (sacral chakra)
Sunshine Yellow (solar plexus chakra)
Emerald Green (heart chakra)
Sky Blue (throat chakra)
Indigo Blue (third eye chakra)
Violet (crown chakra)

Then imagine drawing up liquid metal gold from the earth, up through all the charkas, then allowing it to flow in a fine line down the outside of the other rainbow colours. Hear the metallic “clink” as the gold locks under your feet, encasing all the colours inside it. Now you are protected in a gold eggshell. Visualise merging all the rainbow colours around you into brilliant white light. Notice how calm, balanced and centred you feel.

With practice the colours can be drawn up through the body on the in-breath and cascade down the outside on the out-breath, making this procedure very quick.

ROOTS INTO EARTH GROUNDING
When doing healing work to clear energetic blocks and to raise the vibration either for yourself or others, it is very easy to become ungrounded. This may manifest as feeling tired and washed out, vague and unfocused or “off with the fairies”.

It is advisable before starting any healing session to imagine roots, like tree roots, extending from the soles of your feet deep into the earth to anchor you firmly there. Imagine the root system becoming quite complex and reaching all the way down to the molten core of the earth. You may even like to imagine your feet are buried in soil up to the ankles.

At the conclusion of the session just reinforce the roots from your feet are still going into the ground. If you are working with someone else you may also like to visualise roots coming from their feet at the end of the session to help ground them, as well as brushing their legs down firmly towards the feet.

Some Spiritual Laws of Life

THE LAW OF GRATITUDE
Heartfelt gratitude is a key to abundance. It unlocks the great resources of the Universe.

When you are totally grateful to a person for something they have done, that person feels the energy of thanks and is so overjoyed by it that they want to give you more. When you send out heartfelt thanks to the Universe for the blessings you have received, the divine energy responds by giving you even more blessings.

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
You are a magnet: you attract like to you.

We attract into our lives people and situations that have similar vibrations to our own. The Universe provides mirrors for us to look into. The more vehemently we deny that we are magnets for a particular type of person or situation, the more our Higher Self is asking us to look at our shadow.

The inner attracts the outer. If something in your outer world is not what you want it to be, look inside and shift how you feel about yourself. This then allows different people and experiences to be attracted to you. For instance, the moment you truly commit to loving yourself, the external will change and you will attract someone committed to loving you.

Send out positive light and wait for a miracle to be drawn towards you.

THE LAW OF RESISTANCE
What you resist persists in your life and drains you of energy. Embrace what you do want and feel alive.

“Don’t”, “can’t”, “won’t” or “not” are words which invoke the Law of Resistance. For example, the thought, “I won’t find a perfect partner” resists the perfect partner. Never resist failure or poverty. Instead attract wealth and success. Always embrace the positive rather than resisting the negative. Victim consciousness, “poor me”, will trigger the Law of Resistance.

To dissolve a thought-form you have been resisting, write it down and then burn all your fears about it. Then write down what you do want and start to attract what you do want to you.

If you are having problems with a particular person, look within to resolve your own inner conflict, then that person must, under universal law, leave your life or change their attitude.

THE LAW OF PROJECTION
You do not know how anyone feels or is. Everything you see in another is a projection of an aspect of yourself.

The “pot calling the kettle black”. It is more comfortable to imagine that someone else has the qualities we wish to deny are within ourselves, for instance those who project their hatred think everyone else is out to get them.

We project our insecurities onto others, but because many of us do not own or believe in our magnificence, we also project our beautiful, gracious, powerful and brilliant parts onto others. Projecting yourself onto someone else prevents you from taking responsibility for self.

THE LAW OF ATTACHMENT
If you wish to be free, detach yourself from everyone and everything. It is a prerequisite for enlightenment.

You can have anything you wish in your life, but if your sense of self-worth or your happiness depends on it, then you are attached to it. Whoever or whatever you are attached to can manipulate you. You are no longer free. Energetic cords of attachment may form between people who have unresolved issues between them, even from lifetime to lifetime. Energy cords can also attach people to objects like houses and cars, or even intangible things like a need for love.

If you need someone to behave in a certain way in order to love them, it is not love, but rather attachment or conditional love. To dissolve the energetic cords of attachment to a particular person, forgive that person and yourself for what has happened in the past in order to free both of you. Use intention and visualisation to powerfully release your attachment to objects and intangible things.

Abundance and Manifestation

I am sure you remember in 2008 and the early part of 2009 the doom and gloom merchants, largely in the media, that would have had us believe the global economy was irretrievably collapsing. The fear thus generated in people caused them to feel like powerless victims completely unable to control the direction of their life.

Isn't it time we realise we have been controlled through media-generated fear and disaster for too long? It is now time to shift our thinking to the new paradigm of personal empowerment, switch off the 6.00pm TV news, start to reclaim our power and leave those doom and gloom merchants far behind.

My hypnotherapy training has taught me that the subconscious mind cannot discriminate between a vividly-imagined experience and a real one. So let’s start to create the New Story of the Life of our Dreams vividly in our minds and focus on this, rather than on our old story of hardship and struggle!

The Universal Law of Attraction draws to us whatever we focus on. It does not discriminate between perceived negative and positive things, but merely is a faithful servant bringing back to you an exact measure of what you focus on predominantly. You may wonder why you do your Affirmations religiously each day, yet nothing seems to change. It is necessary to look at how much of each day is spent in positivity and faith in your ability to manifest, as opposed to how much is subconscious negative self-talk, faulty beliefs and just automatically running old outmoded mind programs. For instance, no matter how many positive affirmations you make regarding being prosperous and a “money-magnet”, if you are subconsciously stuck in Poverty Consciousness, then guess what you get more of according to the Law of Attraction? You guessed it - more situations in your life to keep you stuck financially! This also holds true for relationships, health and all areas of your life. You get exactly what you predominantly focus on subconsciously. Time to change that subconscious programming?

Take some time now to think about what you want to achieve in your life this year, whether it be in relationships, career, health, finances or whatever. Be wild and free in your thinking, imagining yourself free of limitations. Write this Desire Statement down and speak it out positively with conviction every day. The Desire Statement must be written in the present tense, as if everything has already happened. Totally avoid negatives and statements of what you don’t want. Vividly tune into and imagine the fabulous feelings of joy, success and achievement at already having achieved all of those things you do want.

This will progressively bring you into Vibrational Alignment with all you seek, allowing those things to manifest effortlessly into your experience. A dense, heavy vibration keeps you stuck where you are, but raising your vibration through conscious intent, by creating more joy in your life and by reducing stress can soon get you to where you want to be. When you have worked through the layers of fear holding you back from what you want, then you are left with a deep inner knowing and the desired manifestation happens. The final key to manifestation is having the faith that it is there for you and letting go of the attachment to the outcome. A personal example to illustrate this is my being offered one of those time-share discount holiday deals over the phone a couple of years ago “in appreciation for participating in their survey”. Now we had just received 7 days free accommodation on the Gold Coast, Australia, I said jokingly to my daughter, "Now I just need to manifest the airfares!” As I had let go of the outcome completely, more because I had said it as a joke than anything else, the next day after business in Canberra, I won the $3000 jackpot in the lottery at the club we went to for dinner! The strange thing was I had this deep inner knowing that I would win it as soon as I bought the ticket - a completely unwavering faith. I had manifested not only the airfares for 3 to the Gold Coast, but also all the other expenses and spending money too within 24 hours. Wow!

Eft and A Novel Approach

on Monday, May 10, 2010

Let me share a powerful technique I have found for assisting anyone struggling to release their old patterns. Many of you will already have heard of Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly called EFT, and may even have tried it. It aims to rebalance the body by systematically tapping on various meridian points around the face and upper body and has been used successfully to treat anything from fear of heights to confidence. There are a number of versions of it, but I particularly like Brad Yates’ 9-point tapping system:

Decide on the problem you want to address and rate your current discomfort level with it out of 10.

Choose your Set-up Sentence to reflect this problem in the format, "Even though I have this (name the problem), I choose to love and accept myself." Then systematically tap 5 -10 times on each of the following nine points in sequence.

1. Karate Chop Point - using the index and middle finger of one hand, tap repeatedly on the side of the other hand in the hollow just below the little finger while saying your set-up sentence 3 times.

2. Inner Eyebrow Point - using the same fingers for tapping as before, repeat the name of the problem, for instance, “This feeling of unworthiness” 3 times at each of the remaining points.

3. Outside Eye Socket

4. Under Eye Socket

5. Under Nose

6. Chin Point, just under lip

7. Collar Bone Point - make a loose fist with one hand and tap 5 -10 times at the top of the sternum, so it connects with just below both collarbones. Remember to repeat the set-up phrase 3 times.

8. Underarm at Bra Level - 4 fingers tapping this larger area

9. Crown Point - with your hand cupped as if you are holding a tennis ball, tap around in a circle on the top of your head, to tap across multiple meridians simultaneously.

Once you have finished this circuit of tapping re-rate your discomfort level with the problem. Ideally the rating out of 10 will have dropped. Repeat the tapping and set-up phrase as above until the discomfort level has dropped to zero or it stops changing. You may find other related set-up phrases (other aspects of the problem) may also be required to get the rating to a zero.

*An interesting way I have also found to use EFT is to record your own positive affirmations and then listen to the recording as you tap the above points in sequence in repeating circuits. This allows you to focus continuously on the positive and not on "the problem".

Clearing Anger and Resentment

Recently I was sitting in my parked car waiting to collect my daughter from her drama lesson when an obviously angry woman in a small car tried several times to back into the space in front of me, which was easily long enough for a large car. I noted she had little skill in parking after several unsuccessful attempts that saw her hit the kerb at near right angles each time. Eventually she got her car in and backed it up very close to my car. She opened her door and gesticulated what I thought was, "Can I back up any more?" to which I politely signalled, "No". I went back to reading my book, only to be confronted shortly afterwards by this woman demanding I open my car window so she could hurl a tirade of abuse at me! Apparently her initial gesticulations had been intended to get me to back up further, effectively onto the bumper bar of the car behind me. Her miscommunication that caused me to give her a "no" signal released her rage. Reeling from the verbal attack as she stormed off, I was not given any chance of resolving the miscommunication.

She left the scene filled with rage feeling I had been deliberately horrible to her and I felt my energy field had been shattered. All completely unnecessary if she had communicated her wants clearly in the first place. I did however ask for light and love to be sent to her.

How many angry people do you know who feel the whole world is out to get them and their experiences just seem to reinforce this? How many of these people have few if any friends? Could it be something they themselves are doing that perpetuates their situation? From my experience with the angry woman above, it certainly seems some people do. I would certainly give her a wide berth if our paths crossed again! Take a long, hard look at yourself and be honest - could you be one of these angry people? Maybe not on the surface, but do you harbor lingering resentment about past emotional hurts and grievances, which become energetically locked in your body, creating corrosive energy within? If so, it is time to release and resolve it before your greatest punishment is not to those who wronged you, but to yourself, as you increase the likelihood of degenerative diseases like diabetes type II, cancer, especially liver cancer, and heart problems.

My all time favorite technique I have developed for shifting any stuck emotions, especially anger and resentment, doesn’t have a fancy name and is extremely simple, yet deceptively powerful:
- Sit or lie in a quiet place where you won't be disturbed
- Start thinking about a person or situation that makes you feel angry
- Explore where you feel this discomfort of anger in the body
- Breathe into this area for several minutes and become aware of the form (shape, size, colour, etc) of this anger
- On the in-breath draw the energy of this stuck anger up to the throat
- On the outbreath say in your mind whatever comes to you, even if it starts off as just a toning sound
- Soon you are likely to tap into the heart of the anger and words of rage will be powerfully expressed in your mind
- Allow your whole body to be fully involved in the release process if necessary
- Underneath the anger you are likely to encounter tears
- Continue with the releasing of trapped anger in your mind until it feels complete
- Allow that 'energy void' to now be filled with whatever it needs for healing, such as the vibration of calm, peace or white light.
- Check back to what you were thinking about initially and see if there are any more areas of angry discomfort. If so repeat the process.
- Completion is when you can think of the original person or situation in a neutral way, free of any anger charge.
